Ensure Cooling Efficiency with the Right Unit Size

Exact Room Measurements Mean Lower Cooling Costs

Did you know that many people buy oversized AC units because they think they'll provide better cooling? The truth is that oversized AC units are less effective and waste energy.

Here's Why

AC units remove heat and humidity from the air. Oversized units, though they may cool rooms quickly, only remove some of the humidity. This leaves rooms with a damp, clammy feeling. A properly sized unit will remove humidity effectively as it cools.

Figuring Out the Right Size

To figure out which unit size is best for your cooling needs, you need to determine the square footage of the area to be cooled. For square and rectangular rooms, multiply the length of the area by its width. In triangular areas, you should multiply the length of the area by its width and divide by 2.

Need More Help?

Most rooms can be further divided into these basic shapes to determine the square footage. If the shape of your room is something other than square or rectangular, ask your sales associate to help you determine the square footage.

You can also use the square footage and the chart below to determine the correct cooling capacity. Cooling capacity is measured in British thermal units (BTUs) per hour.
