6 Steps for Removing Water and Preventing Mold in Carpet
Carpet exposed to flooding, whether from a severe storm or a burst pipe, can easily become a breeding ground for mold. While some carpet is beyond repair and should be removed and disposed of, fast action to dry and thoroughly clean carpet after a leak or a flood can preserve the carpet and prevent mold growth.
- Remove standing water from floors with a wet/dry vacuum and floor squeegees.
- Thoroughly dry area with blowers.
- Remove additional moisture with dehumidifiers.
- Thoroughly clean and sanitize carpets with a carpet extractor and extraction cleaner. Add mold control solution, such as Concrobium®, to control mold spore proliferation.
- Sanitize and apply mold control treatment on all surfaces. Position desiccant packets throughout the property to absorb additional moisture.
- Eliminate musty odors with professional deodorizers, such as those from OdoBan®.
