6 Steps for Removing Water and Preventing Mold in Carpet

Carpet exposed to flooding, whether from a severe storm or a burst pipe, can easily become a breeding ground for mold. While some carpet is beyond repair and should be removed and disposed of, fast action to dry and thoroughly clean carpet after a leak or a flood can preserve the carpet and prevent mold growth.

1. Remove standing water from floors with a wet/dry vacuum and floor squeegees.
2. Thoroughly dry area with blowers.
3. Remove additional moisture with dehumidifiers.
4. Thoroughly clean and sanitize carpets with a carpet extractor and extraction cleaner. Add mold control solution, such as Concrobium®, to control mold spore proliferation.
5. Sanitize and apply mold control treatment on all surfaces. Position desiccant packets throughout the property to absorb additional moisture.
6. Eliminate musty odors with professional deodorizers, such as those from OdoBan®.
